In brief
That which links the situation and values might well be called contentment. Satisfaction, well-being, fulfilment, or even happy, convey the sense. That is, where we are experiencing the things we need, the things that are important to us, then we are content. If, on the other hand, we are experiencing things that violate our needs and values, then discontentment arises. This clash, absence, or even insufficiency can manifest in many ways: as eustress or distress which can lead to committed action and creative problem solving, or frustration and depression.
Pi then, is the measure of satisfaction; the relationshiip between nu and sigma; the relationship between what is important to the individual and their presenting situation.

Details
That which links situational awareness and values might well be called contentment. But the treatment herein is not one of positive psychology nor clinical psychotherapy. Rather, it is about noams and memes: what makes us do stuff and spread ideas through culture.
Pi (π) denotes the right-hand side of the noam ν/ι. It relates the senses, both internal and external, to values. Simplifying in Softmint’s scenario: cats love to be warm, dry, well fed, petted, and all those creature comforts which are important to cats. Maslow’s hierarchy is informative. Where the cat obtains that which it values, a saucer of cream, a tickle under the chin, then it shows its pleasure by purring: happy kitty. All cat lovers know this. They also know that most cats hate getting wet.
Cat feels wet (ι) → violates values (ν) → feels irritated (π).
So, ν/ι = π; the cat doesn’t like getting wet.
So, stimulus matching values gives contentment, while mismatch leads to discontentment – the pi relationship betwixt iota-nu. There are an abundance words for such states: nice, nasty, or neutral. Mood words are expressive like delighted, satisfied, content, happy; disgruntled, irritated, annoyed, outraged, pissed off, disappointed, concerned; ambivalent, or just plain meh. These descriptions express how we feel about something, they communicate our state and our emotions. Our emotional states are often a result of how experience, or rather, our interpretation of a presenting situation, meets with our expectations, personal values, and needs. Is where we are at suitable or uncomfortable. Another word is benefit (Latin: To Do Good); are we fitting well? This will be seen again in posts of FAB selling which looks at noams of purchasing behaviour.
This pi component then relates to tau (motivation) as discomfort is usually an indicator of a need to change.Where pi is dissatisfied then some rho is likely to be selected from kappa and invoked as action. In a noam with terminating uni-stability, then pi will possibly become satisfied, usually as a result of action, or change of the situation, and the system can progress on to doing more interesting things.
Engagement levels
I’ve noted that, where things are not genetically hardwired, then the process can be thought of as being separated into learning, then subsequent activation of that learning. The pi component is implicated in both learning and activation, as the individual’s state acts as an activation signal for what has already been learned, or a signal that something needs to be learned or revised. The letter xi (ξ) will be used for that relation between the level of contentment (π) and motivation (τ), which will be seen in a later post.
The direct engagement level with a presenting situation gives pi as an immediate measure of satisfaction in relation to the context. Where there is no appropriate means available to satisfy pi, then the aquisition of means becomes needed: learning or obtaining resources.
inability\value/)problem
At the aquisitional level, possession of nu, the means, is the value. Having the skill or the tool is what becomes important here. The iota, situational awareness, is the knowledge of not having that skill or tool, and so pi dissatisfaction arises from the class between needing something and not having it, giving rise to aquisitional motivation tau invoking some potential response (kappa) into action (rho). This could be learning behaviour, or going and getting the resources.
learning\ability/)inability
Where learning is not directly available, then there would be some higher level dissatisfaction of pi invoking some meta-learning, and so on up the meta-cognition levels.

Sales (direct)
For the salesperson, the sound of cash registers (however methophorical) is musical. Customer satisfaction is critical to sales – it means that they are delighted with their purchase; it provides them with the values they are looking for and at a price they can afford. Of course there is more to a sales interaction than that, much of which is intangible, but the prize of customer satisfaction increases the likelyhood of repeat custom and the spreading of a good reputation. To those bent on the short-term goal of filling their own pockets at the expense of the customer, the confidence trickster, the stereotype dodgy used car salesman, customer retention and buyer’s remose are unimportant.
But those who really take pride in their work, also take pride in customer satisfaction; in the long-game, this also translates into financial reward. Hence both parties’ measures of satisfaction are aligned: the sales person’s satisfaction is premised on the customer’s satisfaction. Consequently, in sales, it is wise to get to know what would satify the customer. The framework posits that customer satifaction is the match of what they perceive the goods to offer with what values they are looking to meet.
At the base level, this measure is whether the product is sufficient for needs, and the surly attitude of the shop assistant is secondary. But customer values are complex, and a happy shopper has other needs than simply what the goods permit: respect, attention, assurance, aftersales service, a solid returns policy etc. To appreciate these other desires, and the deeper needs, can build customer delight and customer evangelists.

Sales (MLM)
The existing distributor and propective downline would essentially be of the same mind. Additional to the direct sales apsects, the prospect would be looking for a promising compensation plan: one that is cost effective to buy into, provides a regular income, has an excellent product they can believe in and promote, and one that is attractive to building their own downline. Hence, when presented with such a scheme that meets their aspirations, they are likely to take the risk and sign-up. Should the plan do what it promises, then they would be duplicating their upline and recruiting their own downline streams.

Origin and history
As a side note, pi was chosen as it is from the same area of the Greek alphabet as the other noam symbols. It loosely relates to phronesis.
Phronesis (Ancient Greek: φρόνησῐς, translit. phrónēsis) is an Ancient Greek word for a type of wisdom or intelligence. It is more specifically a type of wisdom relevant to practical action, implying both good judgement and excellence of character and habits, or practical virtue. Phronesis was a common topic of discussion in ancient Greek philosophy.
